Important Details

Before you book.

A few things to know so your flight goes smoothly.

Additional Passengers

Bring up to 2 additional people at no extra cost. They can ride along in the back or wait at the office or patio with a view at the runway.

Weight Limited

Total cabin weight (including pilot + instructor + all passengers + baggage) must stay under aircraft limits. Tell us everyone's weight when booking so we can verify safe loading.

Prepayment

Discovery Flights are prepaid. We'll send a secure payment link after you contact us. This locks in your aircraft and instructor for your date.

Weather Cancellations

If we cancel for weather/safety, your prepayment is held for a future date or refunded. No charge to reschedule. Pilot's call on weather is final.

What to Wear

Comfortable clothes. Closed-toe shoes (sneakers are perfect). Sunglasses recommended. Skip strong perfume/cologne — small cabin.

What to Bring

Photo ID is required. That's it. We provide everything else — headsets and the plane. No medical certificate needed.

Common Questions

Discovery Flight FAQ.

Do I really get to fly the plane?
Yes. Once we're at altitude in level cruise, the instructor will hand you the controls. You'll fly straight-and-level, do gentle turns, and feel how the airplane responds. The instructor handles takeoff and landing — but the in-flight portion is yours.
Do I need a pilot's license or medical certificate?
No. Discovery Flights are open to anyone, no experience required. You don't need an FAA medical certificate for this flight. Just bring a valid photo ID.
Can I bring family or friends along?
Yes — up to 2 additional passengers can ride along at no extra cost (the Cessna 172 has 4 seats total: you, instructor, and 2 in the back). Just tell us everyone's weight when booking so we can verify the aircraft is loaded within limits.
Is there a weight limit?
The Cessna 172 has weight and balance limits like every aircraft. Total cabin weight (you + instructor + passengers + bags) must stay under the aircraft's max gross weight. We'll calculate this when booking — just give us everyone's approximate weight ahead of time.
How does prepayment work?
After you call or email to book, we'll send a secure payment link. Once payment is received, your aircraft and instructor are confirmed for your scheduled date. If we have to cancel for weather, your prepayment is held for a future date — no charge to reschedule.
Does the time count if I sign up for lessons later?
Yes. We make a logbook entry signed by your instructor for the time you fly. That time counts toward your Private Pilot training requirements if you decide to enroll.
Can I buy this as a gift?
Absolutely. Gift certificates are available upon request — call or email and we'll send a personalized certificate by mail or email. Perfect for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, or "bucket list" gifts.
What happens if weather is bad?
Pilot safety always comes first. If weather is below safe minimums, we cancel and reschedule — no charge. Your prepayment carries over to the new date.
